Internship to Career Program

"Route to Employability"

Internship to Career Program is a sustainable and well-designed strategy to enhance collaboration between regional stakeholders. This program was developed because of the desire for students and recent graduates to gain work experience and the need expressed by businesses to find qualified employees. IRA aims to implement the Internship-to-Career program to bridge the experience gap and provide tools for SME's to become a host company of one or multiple interns on an ongoing basis. Our program differs from others since we focus on both the student and business needs.

Through our program, the intern can apply what they are learning in “real world” settings, gain more substantial professional experience, and begin to develop a network of people in fields that interest them.

On the other side, the businesses can utilize the Imperial County Workforce Development Office, “on the job training” OJT program to receive training funded through the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Under WIOA, an employer that is provided to a paid participant while engaged in productive work in a job that provides knowledge or skills essential to the full and adequate performance of the job, and provides reimbursement to the employer for the costs associated with training the OJT trainee.
