IRA Signs MOU with CETYS University for Internship to Career Program

News | September 16, 2019

Imperial, CA, September 16, 2019 – Imperial Regional Alliance visited CETYS University Mexicali Campus this past Friday to discuss cross-border internship and career opportunities for students. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Imperial Regional Alliance and CETYS University over IRA’s Internship to Career Program. The MOU will serve to further efforts on both sides of the border for career building and workforce training opportunities in the Imperial Valley.

Imperial Regional Alliance, Inc. (IRA) is a non-profit organization that aims to improve the quality of life in Imperial Valley by working to strengthen links between education, job training and employment opportunities. The Internship-to-Career Program "Route to Employability" was established in 2016 with financial support from AT&T, Wells Fargo Foundation and Imperial Valley Community Foundation. The program serves as a regional workforce development strategy that engages businesses and job seekers by addressing the need for qualified workforce. The program incorporates the Imperial County Workforce Development Board and the On the Job Training program (OJT) that benefits both businesses and interns who participate.

IRA collaborates with educational institutions on both sides of the border to bridge the experience gap. “IRA’s Internship to Career Program has moved to a new level with the signing of an MOU with CETYS University,” said IRA Board member, Timothy Kelley. “IRA developed a successful and unique program that now has taken on a true international component. IRA has worked with over 20 interns over the years that have gone on to full employment - many of those interns came from CETYS by word of mouth. With this MOU, the program will be marketed directly to their students. This binational initiative benefits both countries and the Cali Baja Bi-National Mega-Region in particular.”
