Global demand for lithium is projected to grow tenfold in the next decade, but current domestic U.S. lithium production is de minimis on the global scale. In 2019, more than 95% of global lithium extracted came from Australia, Chile, Argentina and China despite significant lithium reserves in the United States. Located in the far southeast corner of California, Imperial County is home to the Salton Sea geothermal resource area and the site of Lithium Valley.
